Mothiba challenges Mbappe in golden boot
South African striker Lebo Mothiba climbed to seventh spot in the French golden boot race after scoring his eighth goal of the season when his club Racing Strasbourg was held to a 2-2 draw by Caen in the French League on Sunday.
Pablo Martinez opened the scoring for Strasbourg in only the fifth minute of their tie but Faycal Fajr drew Caen level in the 22minute of a highly entertaining and fast paced match played at La Meinau.
But while Caen were probably still celebrating their goal, Strasbourg hit right back a minute later as Mothiba proved his predatory instinct to help the hosts regain their lead in the 23rd minute and they appeared to be cruising to a deserved victory until the 80th minute when Saif Eddine Khaoul pulled them level.
The draw, the second within four days after also holding runaway leaders Paris Saint Germain to a 1-1 stalemate at home on Wednesday, helped Strasbourg maintain their eighth position in the 20-team league but Mothiba kept pace with the top scorers.
Kylian Mbappe shares top spot with Emilliano Sala both on 12 goals each while Brazilian Neymar, Frenchman Florian Thauvin and Nicholas Pepe are all on 11 goals apiece.
Edilson Cavani follows closely behind with 10 goals and Mothiba kept abreast of the top hitmen in French football with his eight of the season that elevated him to seventh overall in the scoring charts.
