Touring Mzansi, Botswana and Namibia by road
DAY TWO
Epic Spring Lodge was a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Jwaneng, Botswana. Recently opened to business, the lodge offered a peaceful and rejuvenating retreat for weary travelers like us.
As we arrived at the lodge, we were greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere that immediately put us at ease. The lodge’s exterior was a charming blend of traditional and modern architecture, with earthy tones and natural materials that seamlessly blended into the surrounding landscape.
The spacious grounds were adorned with lush gardens, towering trees, and vibrant flowers, creating a tranquil oasis in the desert. The five rooms at Epic Spring Lodge were a true sanctuary, offering spacious and immaculately clean accommodations.
The neutral color palette and cozy furnishings created a welcoming ambiance, perfect for relaxation after a long day on the road.
The en-suite bathrooms were equipped with refreshing showers, providing a much-needed respite from the desert heat. In the morning, we gathered in the lodge’s dining area for a sumptuous breakfast spread.
The aroma of freshly brewed coffee, sizzling bacon, and fluffy pancakes filled the air, tantalizing our taste buds. We indulged in a hearty meal, fueling up for the day ahead as we planned our route along the Trans Kalahari Express.
As we hit the road once more, the landscape unfolded before us in a tapestry of natural beauty. The Trans Kalahari highway stretched out like a ribbon of asphalt, cutting through the vast expanse.
We passed by ancient cycads and heard the chorus of cicadas in the distance, a symphony of nature that serenaded us as we journeyed onwards. The scenery was dotted with colorful birds, their melodic calls creating a delightful soundtrack to our travels.
The golden sun cast a warm glow over the arid landscape, bathing everything in a soft, ethereal light. We marveled at the sweeping vistas and rugged beauty of the country, feeling a deep sense of connection to the natural world around us.
We passed by remote villages and herds of grazing wildlife, immersing ourselves in the untamed beauty of the countryside. Finally, we arrived at Plot 19 in Ghanzi, our chosen destination for the second day of our journey.
This remote lodge was a peaceful refuge in the heart of the desert, offering comfortable accommodations and a tranquil setting for rest and relaxation.
The sun was beginning to set as we settled into our rooms, exhausted but exhilarated by the day’s adventures. As we gathered for dinner under a canopy of stars, we reflected on the day’s journey and the incredible landscapes we had encountered along the way.
The night was alive with the sounds of nature – the rustling of leaves, the chirping of crickets, and the distant howl of a jackal. We knew that our road trip was far from over, but for now, we were content to savor the moment, surrounded by the beauty of the African wilderness and the camaraderie of good friends.
