The smart money is on Brazil to samba all the way!

With Spain and Germany among the first nations that are already home and enjoying a siesta like they had never set foot in Qatar; the smart money is now on the Netherlands and Brazil to take home first prize in the ongoing FIFA World Cup.

It is the samba boys from Rio de Janeiro that will come up against Croatia at the Education City Stadium on Friday afternoon as the tournament inched closer to the business end of proceedings after the boys have been sorted from the men.

Germany, Spain, Mexico, Denmark, Belgium despite their array of stars including Romelo Lukaku among others, Uruguay, Cameroon and Ghana have all been dismissed and departed the desert country.

Forget that Brazil were once humiliated 7-1 by Germany right in Maracanã a couple of years ago, pundits have installed them as favorites to get past the Croats and I agree that they are dead cert for the gold medal.

You only have to look to Neymar, Richarlison, Vinicius Junior, Raphinha, Gabriel Martinelli, and their names are simply enough to provoke you’re a chill down your spine at the prospect of facing them.

Do not read too much from the 1-0 loss suffered by Brazil at the hands of Cameroon in their final group match. Firstly, they rested all their top performers and fielded what many consider a second-string line-up.

Secondly, with due respect to the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, the hard truth is that they had already qualified for the knockout stage and there was no need to raise a sweat as they simply coasted along.

As indication that the Cameroon match was insignificant, they switched back on against South Korea and hammered the Asian nation 4-1 while putting on the style with a little bit of shoe shuffling and showboating to boot!
